4 SPIN 114 © 2024 The Ménière’s Society ’s Society We hope you enjoy reading our final issue of Spin for 2024! This year we’ve been pleased to host our Annual Conference – with reports of the presentations in this issue and the previous edition (113). We look forward to sharing plans for our 2025 conference in due course. We had a great Balance Awareness Week in September and thank everyone who took part, hosted events and shared our social media posts - more in the next issue. We attended the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Queen’s Square, London on Monday 16 September. We had an information stand and chatted with patients and staff about vestibular conditions and the work of the Society. We also took some #BalanceAware photos (pictured). On the Thursday of Balance Awareness Week, we held our Annual General Meeting. Many thanks to everyone who attended via Zoom. The meeting started with a presentation on ‘‘Dizziness and Perception: Seeing Through the Invisible” from Ménière’s Society Ambassador, Diego Kaski, Consultant Neurotologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London. This was followed by our business meeting to elect the trustees and approve our annual financial report. David Renton has been Chair of Trustees for six years and, as per the Society’s Constitution, is required to step down after this period of time. We are very grateful for all David’s work and time he has given to the role over the years. We are pleased that he will be continuing to volunteer with us as part of the trustee body. With David stepping down from his Chair role, we are delighted that Colin Hughes and Pennie Ford were elected as our new joint Chairs of Trustees for the coming year. Sara Christopher also remains as the Charity’s Treasurer at this time. As we move towards the end of the year, we’re focusing on our Christmas fundraising. Check out our Christmas Cards on page 26 and also on the enclosed flyer. They are already selling well, so please order soon to avoid disappointment. Welcome to Spin 114 SoCIety News

SPIN 114 © 2024 The Ménière’s Society ’s Society 5 If you’d like the chance to win £1000 and support our charity at the same time, why not enter our Christmas Prize Draw. Tickets are enclosed with this issue of Spin (see page 27 too). Closing date is 9 December 2024. Finally, this year’s Christmas Campaign is raising funds for our ongoing Research Programme. The Programme started in 1998 and, since then, we are proud to have been able to invest £1.2million into projects aimed at diagnosing, treating and understanding vestibular disorders. Unfortunately, our funds aren’t endless and we need your help to replenish our funds. If you can, please donate to our research fund so we can continue funding vital research into vestibular conditions. Please share with family and friends too. See page 21 or visit https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/ vestibular-research for more information. Finally, all that’s left for us to say is a very big thank you to you all for your support during 2024. We hope you have a great end to the year and we look forward to finding out what 2025 brings for our charity. In the meantime, please remember if you have any questions, or if you’d like any information or support, please get in contact with our team. You can call us on +44 (0) 1306 876883 or email: info@menieres.org.uk We’re here to help. We’re Looking for Organisations to Partner With Us It is estimated that around one in 10 working-age adults will suffer some degree of disability due to dizziness at some point and yet this symptom is still little understood. Sufferers often feel isolated due to the lack of awareness and support available. A partnership between your organisation and the Ménière’s Society could help us begin to change that. As well as making a big difference to the lives of those affected, there are huge benefits to your organisation supporting the Ménière’s Society, including: more motivated employees; improved morale and wellbeing; commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR); great brand awareness; stronger relationships with your stakeholders. If you would like more information for your organisation about partnering with the Ménière’s Society please contact us info@menieres.org.uk or call 01306 876883 or visit our website for further information: https://www.menieres.org.uk/support-us/corporate-supporters We’ve got lots of suggestions for ways you can fundraise for the Ménière’s Society. Visit https://www.menieres.org.uk/support-us or contact us for more information.
